Laser cavity detector
The laser cavity detector is believed to be 90 percent accurate in finding dental cavities or suspicious areas, in comparison to historical methods which relied on probing teeth with a fine pick or taking X-rays at every few dental check-ups.
Dental laser cavity detection is carried out by beaming laser light onto the chewing area of your teeth. A pen-like instrument is used to probe the mouth, similar to a light wand. As the light wand scans the chewing area of your teeth, the attached readout portion of the laser cavity detection machine checks the density of your tooth structure and calculates the possibility of tooth decay. When increased light wavelengths register, it notifies the dentist of a possibly compromised area.
Early cavity detection through laser cavity detector technology may mean less repair work and better enamel integrity.
