Dr. Gilliland’s passion for dentistry is driven by experiences in early adulthood. Seventeen years ago, as a young chef and restaurant owner, his father was diagnosed with Stage IV Oral Cancer. The impact of this on his family inspired him to rethink his professional life.
“I recognized the importance of thorough examination, prevention, and early intervention, and I learned that I wanted to help people in a more profound way,” he explains. “Many of the treatments that we provide are emotionally powerful for everyone involved. There is nothing I love more than being a part of this profound emotional and physical healing.”
Dr. Gilliland is experienced in a wide range of advanced surgical and prosthetic treatment and care, including both surgical and prosthetic phases of dental implantology. His primary clinical focus is dental implantology and full-mouth implant reconstruction, including All-on-4 /5/6 and “Teeth-in-a-Day” protocols.
In addition to the practice of clinical dentistry, he trains residents at the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center in the subjects of dental implantology, oral surgery, and management of medically complex patients.
He holds a Fellowship from the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, Surgical Fellowship with the Misch International Implant Institute, Membership with American Academy of Implant Dentistry, Associate Fellowship with International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Fellowship in the Royal College of Medicine, and Membership with the Academy of General Dentistry.
He completed his residency at the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center, attended dental school at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, where he also completed an Oral Surgery Clerkship and received a degree in Integrative Physiology at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
Dr. Gilliland and his wife, Ela, a Family Medicine Physician, are avid outdoor enthusiasts, and love to glamp/camp, hike, bike, kayak, and ski. They have shared interest in the science of human longevity and performance, and in strategies to delay the onset of chronic disease.
Let me first tell you I get anxiety when I always had to go to the dentist.. but I've been coming here for the last 3 years ...as soon as you walk through the door the lady's up front makes you feel Welcome, always so polite and friendly.. then going back to the room they always make sure im feeling ok and doing well while I'm sitting getting my teeth clean . Thank you Tasha for being so patient with me!
Brookside dental has the most kind, compassionate and knowledgeable people I have ever seen. As a former dental hygienist of 20 years, I had a great new patient appointment. The hygienist Selma was wonderful! She was friendly, knowledgeable , gentle and meticulous all at the same time. The exam by the doctor was thorough and he had a great bedside manner too! They also had all the latest tech. Looking forward to many years as a patient there!
